Thank You

From Wg Cdr JP [01-11-08]

In exactly two years, from 200 hits to 4200 per month….that is, indeed a great achievement for this website. When I started this website or should I say weblog, it was the burning desire to put everything about us – the Badagas – in a logical but correct perspective.

So that the young Badagas around the world would know that they belong to an unique community with great culture, customs and traditions. And a non Badaga, visting this site will get a firsthand information.

Badaga language, though not having a script of its own, has been a source of deep interest for a large number of researchers. Even the mighty MICROSOFT realised it and has put Badaga as one of its developmental languages.

4200 hits a month or 140 average hits per day has to be highly satisfying. It is! And it is also, very humbling.

Thank you for giving a chance  for repaying to the society which I was born into. To follow the footsteps of my grandfather Rao Bahadur Bellie gowda and uncle Rao Bahadur Ari Gowda.

With a heart filled with happiness, I dedicate this acheivement to my mother Idyammal daughter of Rao Bahadur Bellie Gowda, who is 96 years young and has been the inspiration behind everything and responsible for what I am today.

And of course, a big thank you to my wife, Tara who tolerates me spending so many hours with the system and internet [and still serving tea and meals at the computer table].

Praying to  Goddess HETHAY AMMA to give the strength to serve the society still better.

I have just noticed the “Gowda” after your name(above). It should be “Gowder” right? Correct me if I am wrong !!

Thank you for your mail. I have used the word “GOWDA” instead of ‘GOWDER’ as I am of the opinion that GOWDA is the right way to describe us – Badaga Gowdas . Gowder was a term given by the British and somehow that is got stuck. By the way, what do you feel sounds better – Gowder or Gowda??

Yes.. you are right and “Gowda” sounds better in pronouciation but “Gowder” carries the real respect.. may be by convention.. Just for instance.. say / take ” Ari Gowda” and “Ari Gowder” .. certaily hte later carries the respect and we need for the gowders.

It is imperative to note here that we address only the elders as “Gowder” or “Gowda” normally. Meaning , it is not in vogue to call a Badaga younster as “Gowda” or Gowder” . it warrents a status which is either “conferred( as oru Gowda) ” or attained by age and stature. Hence “Gowder” will suit more than “Gowda” for the respect personified in the ” Gowder”.. This is my perception..
